1.舊版對Cogburn的粗暴、酗酒的硬漢形象的刻畫(huà)是通過(guò)那些無(wú)關(guān)的對話(huà)循序漸進(jìn)的。初現“和惡棍講理是沒(méi)有用的，槍才是硬道理”的立場(chǎng)是他邊反手頂著(zhù)酒壺喝威士忌邊當著(zhù)Mattie的面射殺一只老鼠。殺老鼠前他說(shuō)
Rooster Cogburn: Mr. Rat, I have a writ here says you're to stop eating Chin Lee's cornmeal forthwith. Now it's a rat writ, writ for a rat, and this is lawful service of the same. See, doesn't pay any attention to me.

Rooster Cogburn: I'm servin' some papers!

2.而在Mattie身上展現的是一種磨人的強硬的不寬容，雖然有時(shí)她也會(huì )忽然俏皮地說(shuō)"I have an idea"，然后blablabla講了個(gè)很幼稚的想法，但你基本可以在這個(gè)少女身上就看到一種老處女的讓人望而生畏的理智。
Mattie Ross: I hope you don't think I'm going to keep you in whiskey?
Rooster Cogburn: I don't buy that, I confiscate it. And a touch of it wouldn't do you any harm against the night air!

3.Cogburn是老小孩，Mattie是小大人，但他們相似的地方在于他們的性格里都有致命的不討世人喜歡的東西，他們的生活完全隔離于他人，像頑石一樣顯露給彼此，這才能夠使他們惺惺相惜。

4.老版里沒(méi)有比賽槍術(shù)的那段，新版里靠視覺(jué)完成的那些競技在舊版里都是靠對話(huà)和搶白來(lái)展現的
Rooster Cogburn: When's the last time you saw Ned Pepper?
Emmett Quincy: I don't remember any Ned Pepper.
Rooster Cogburn: Short feisty fella, nervous and quick, got a messed-up lower lip.
Emmett Quincy: That don't bring nobody to mind. A funny lip?
Rooster Cogburn: Wasn't always like that, I shot him in it.
Emmett Quincy: In the lower lip? What was you aiming at?
Rooster Cogburn: His upper lip.

Rooster Cogburn: [checking Ned Pepper's dead horse] You're quite a horse-shooter.
LaBoeuf: I was trying for Ned Pepper.
Rooster Cogburn: Next time try for the horse, and maybe you'll hit Pepper!

Capt. Boots Finch（旅店老板）: So this is the man shot Ned Pepper's horse from under him.
Rooster Cogburn: Yeah! This is the famous horse killer from El Paso. He believes in puttin' everybody afoot. Says there'll be less mischief that way.
LaBoeuf: Fewer horses - fewer horse thieves.

不同的結局是LaBoeuf最后死了，為了救Mattie，他們不得不把他的尸體留在荒郊野外。
Rooster Cogburn: Texican... saved my neck twice. Once after he was dead.

我不是說(shuō)老版好于新版，新版的節奏性強，現代觀(guān)眾已經(jīng)不需要那么多對話(huà)來(lái)一點(diǎn)點(diǎn)堆砌人物的形象，直接get the point才不會(huì )讓人感到無(wú)聊到要在影院里呼呼睡去。新版的對話(huà)戲劇性更強，原來(lái)那些關(guān)于德州人的譏諧，關(guān)于戰爭時(shí)哪里服役的有一段沒(méi)一段的談話(huà)都變成了一觸即發(fā)的矛盾點(diǎn)，甚至導致了分道揚鑣。不能否認新版的可看性更強。

但就演員來(lái)說(shuō)，Jeff Bridges和John Wayne的氣場(chǎng)絕對沒(méi)法比，一把胡子加上眼罩一遮，我簡(jiǎn)直看不清楚Bridges的表情，不能說(shuō)不是硬漢，但和69版比起來(lái)，感覺(jué)更像是說(shuō)話(huà)嘴里老是含了一口痰的糟老頭。
女主角倒是平分秋色。Hailee Steinfeld雖不是老版中那種短發(fā)俏皮磨人的范兒，但眉目之間自有一種沉靜的鐵骨柔情在?；街袊娴脑?huà)，演射雕里的穆念慈再好不過(guò)。
